ORGANISMS AND POPULATIONS 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

·         Acquifer: Stratum containing groundwater. Water tableis upper layer of groundwater.

·         Ecological Equivalents: Different organisms occupying similar niches in different geographical areas.

·         Parasitoids:Organisms which live as parasites in larval stage but become free living later on, eg, Trichogramma. Parasitoids are used to control crop pests.

·         Oxylophytes (Oxyphytes): Plants growing in acidic soils.

·         Eremophytes:Desert plants, found in deserts and steppes.

·         Chersophytes: Plants growing in shallow soils or wasteland.

·         Psychrophytes:Plants growing in cold soils.

·         Chasmophytes (Chasmaphils): Plants growing in rock crevices.

·         Chasmochophytes:Plants growing on detritus present in rock crevices.
